Wouldn't a bad clutch slip the same in high and low range? Or would it slip more in low range?

i would say it would slip worse because you have multiplied the gearing which would overpower the clutch easier

Generally they will slip more in high range. The gear multiplication reduces the stress on the clutch and the rest of the driveline. Worst case, for te clutch, will be high range and 5th gear.

Drivermod is correct, top gear usually slips first. Lost 13th gear in a Mack I used to drive, 12th and 11th would slip if I really got on the throttle hard. 10th and under would not slip at all. Clutch plate was still good, pressure plate had broken teeth.

hmmmm....I found driving in the snow that if I accelerated heavy in 4low that the comanche would produce a burning smell and the engine would rev high with very little tire spin for a bit before taking off. Four high was fine.

i beleave the question was high and low range not hi and low gear so with more load on the clutch it would in fact slip easier in low range like i said originally. if you put the vehicle in high gear and are able to let the clutch out like your trying to take off and it doesnt kill the engine something in the clutch is wore out and needs addressed

hmmm.....If I put it in 3rd and let off the clutch it stalls. Guess the clutch must be ok. The 2.8 must just be too powerfull in 4 low.

There should not be clutch slippage in any gear, if there is there is a problem.

Sounds like its hanging sometimes. I agree with Tom, it needs to be taken apart and inspected.

high or low, pull the damn tranny, slap a clutch, new plate, pilot and throw out bearing in it, its cheap and easy. its like bitching about buying new rotors with your brake pads......
